S.M.A.R.T. Solves Your Barrier Issues:
Safety Integrity
- Challenge Barrier ‘drifts’ from unsecure position potentially causing traffic accidents
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. monitors barrier position against operator commands and initiates an ‘Auto-Reverse’ command to a safe/open position and alarms condition for operator/maintenance action
- Challenge Smaller vehicles lost within safety loops or loop failure causing traffic accident
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. monitors vehicle progress through lane and delays close command for a few seconds after the loop has been cleared
- Challenge Maintenance technicians at risk of barriers being inadvertently operated by security
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. has a maintenance activation button which locks out other functions to keep the system “safe” while maintenance is being performed
- Challenge Barrier failed to open upon command creating the potential for vehicular impact
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. monitors barrier position and alarms to address system failure or operator error
- Challenge No way to determine cause of a vehicle accident

Security Integrity
- Challenge Vehicle stopped too long at barrier compromising its ability to deploy
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. sends an alarm notification to security personnel
- Challenge Barrier open too long
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. monitors barriers/loop detectors and notifies security personnel that a barrier/lane has been open too long without vehicle traffic. This indicates either a security gap or equipment failure
- Challenge Free exit failure/barrier did not return to secure position following automatic operation
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. alarms indicating an ‘unsecure position’ and security vulnerability
- Challenge Barrier failed to return to the ‘secure’ position following ‘close’ command
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. alerts security personnel indicating either system failure or operator error
- Challenge Accident investigation and/or need for further security officer operator training
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. maintains detailed historical data logs that tracks operation of the barriers. This ‘chain-of-evidence’ capability is key for accident cause/effect and operator refresher training
Systems Integrity
- Challenge Inability to determine if a loop detector is working
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. is programmed to provide visual indication that a vehicle has been detected by an inductance loop. This real-time feedback confirms detection
- Challenge Inability to determine when a vehicle barrier isn’t functioning properly
- Solution S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics and predictive analytics monitor a number of system elements that provide vital information on the ‘health’ of the barrier. Maintenance personnel can proactively address issues and save the owner costs
